Our client is a Private Equity-owned, fast moving, innovative and best-in-class manufacturer of consumer packaged goods.

Title:               Controller

Reports to:     Chief Financial Officer

Location:   Virginia

Required:  Controller experience in a complex, high SKU, and work order driven                        
                        manufacturing environment. Strong preference for experience with 3rd
                        party service provider pricing models, vs. transfer pricing. Required
                        experience as controller with commercial ties to include the developing
                        of customer price quotes.  

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Plant Controller will have full financial and accounting responsibility for the manufacturing operations based in the Company's Roanoke, VA facility. The plant is run as a full profit center focusing on consumer goods, with demonstrated strong sales growth. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer, with dotted line reporting to the Plant General Manager.

The Plant Controller is required to have controller experience in manufacturing environment with high SKU complexity and volume. Further, he/she must have Pricing and P/(L) management experience in a profit center.

Key responsibilities include: general accounting, cost and inventory accounting including manufacturing variance analysis, financial statement preparation and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, labor control and reporting, and internal controls.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performance of cost and inventory accounting, including maintenance of full absorption standard cost system and financial bills of material.
• Development, implementation and maintenance of daily controls of the standard cost system to assure standard cost accuracy, inventory valuation and standard gross margin reporting accuracy.
• Manage process for product pricing for all plant customers.
• Interaction with key customers relating to pricing and inventory issues.
• General accounting including:
  • Journal entry preparation and posting
  • Monthly financial statement preparation
  • Financial statement and key account analysis, and
  • P/(L) variance analysis
• Daily control and reporting on factory labor force (rate and usage), including management and administration of time and attendance system and procedures.
• Inventory control of both company owned and customer owned inventory.
• Recording and analysis of manufacturing variances including:
  • Labor rate and efficiency variances.
  • Material usage and purchase price variance.
  • Overhead spending and absorption variances.
• Assistance to General Manager in the creation and execution of profit improvement initiatives.
• Preparation of detailed budget and forecasts for the plant.
• Profitability analysis by customer and product line.
• Maintenance of appropriate internal controls for the plant.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• 7-10 years plant controllership experience in a manufacturing environment producing large number and variety of SKU's, including the following key areas:
  • Work Order issuance, receipt and closure
  • Maintenance of standard cost systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Inventory accounting and control
  • Plant financial budget and forecast preparation
• Strong working knowledge of accounting systems.
• Proven track record as a financial change agent in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor degree in Accounting or related discipline.
