Our client, a rapidly growing, twenty five year old Charlotte based professional services company seeks an energetic, forward thinking Chief Financial Officer who will assume a leadership role in driving the business while furthering best practices and an operational focus to the organization. The primary objective will be to provide key financial leadership necessary to guide the company through significant growth in the areas of strategy and operating performance.

Position Summary

The CFO will play a critical role in the current and future success of the organization. As a senior member of the executive team, he/she will participate in the formulation of the company’s business strategy and will help to ensure the effective execution of that strategy. He/she will be a key advisory to the CEO and leadership team on issues of fundamental strategy, controls, and operations management while helping to drive the business towards growth and continued profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

Financial Reporting. Manage accurate and timely month-end close and financial reporting

Budgeting and Performance Measurement Systems. Establish and manage systems to enable insightful, timely assessment of performance (cost, quality, and service), including:

  • Budgeting and variance analysis
  • Standard Costing System
  • Productivity and other measurements of operational effectiveness

Financial Controls. Establish and enforce best practice financial and operational controls. Establish regular reporting of key performance indicators

Purchasing / Procurement. Establish systems and processes to evaluate current purchasing decisions and measure and manage purchasing effectiveness and to drive continuous improvement

Systems & Information Technology. Lead continued implementation and refinement of new Microsoft Dynamics AX

Administrative Management. Senior leadership responsibility for key administrative functions

  • Provide the analytical framework, financial metrics and benchmarks to enable informed investment decisions, identify trends, plan and promote growth, capitalize on opportunities and minimize risks.
  • Work across all functions within the organization to build understanding of the financial drivers of the business and create awareness and ownership of the financial implications of every business decision. Establish criteria for resource management, setting a tone within the organization for efficient use of resources and financial responsibility, and informed risk-taking.
  • Build and improve the organizational and structural financial backbone of the business to ensure a seamless connection to other company functions including sales, operations, IT, human resources, etc. Develop and institute best practices and procedures.
  • Ensure a strong, disciplined financial infrastructure, including accounting systems, budgeting, reports and financial analysis. Manage, improve and streamline the quality of the functional areas of financial reporting and control, financial planning, budgets and forecasting, tax and audit management. Prepare profit/loss statements, balance sheets and capital budgets continuously analyzing and evaluating financial performance.
  • Represent business model and values to internal and external audiences in a compelling manner, including employees, bankers, and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee monthly financial statement closings and financial analysis.
  • Effectively manage cash flow.
  • Develop and maintain banking and financing relationships.
  • Coordinate financial statement audits and review tax returns.
  • Prepare and analyze timely and accurate reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings.
  • Prepare budgets and future cash flow projections.
  • Providing key inputs to strategic planning and participating in the development of the strategic plan.
  • Motivate and manage the finance team, including staffing, training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated track record (10+ years’ experience) of leadership, impact and success in cost accounting and financial control leadership, preferably in a growth oriented professional services or manufacturing environment with obsessive focus on cost, quality, and service.
  • Experience working with commercial markets and overseeing sourcing.
  • A demonstrated ability to scope, plan and administer projects of high complexity.
  • A measurable history of identifying cost reduction areas and reducing costs.
  • Experience in establishing business intelligence/reporting systems such as customer/product profitability reports.
  • Self-driven and motivated with a high degree of ownership and initiative.

 Education

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting/finance or related
  • CPA/MBA are desirable
