Our client is a major market contract manufacturing and private labeler of personal care products, over-the-counter (OTC) drug preparations and cosmetics.  

TITLE:                General Manager (HH17044)

LOCATION:         New Jersey


Position Overview

This position is responsible for development and achievement of the company business plan. General Manager will be accountable for ensuring quality and on time production/shipment of finished products at optimal cost, protecting and employing assets to achieve set targets for return on invested capital and creating a culture that embraces empowerment and teamwork while significantly growing revenue and EBITDA.

Key responsibilities related to revenue generation include: identifying opportunities for growth and removing barriers to growth; interfacing with existing customers to gain additional business and find new customers for future business. The General Manager is also expected to take a lead role in developing and maintaining relationships with customer and suppliers which are key to success in the business. Will maintain, enhance and further develop the company leadership and company workforce.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead by example that demonstrates the core values of Company.
  • Deliver high-quality service to customers.
  • Ensure profitable sales, financial, and operational performance of the division in concert with the corporate mission, strategic plan, and business plan.
  • Establish key metrics to monitor performance for team and corporate management.
  • Meet regularly with the CEO and Board to discuss planned versus actual profitability, return on invested capital, employee productivity and moral, and other relevant issues.
  • Manage and optimize end to end operational performance related to delivery, efficient manufacturing (compounding/filling), quality, regulatory compliance, customer service, material costs, sustainable continuous improvement as well as other programs to enhance profitability.
  • Analyze actual demand and forecasts and provide sufficient manufacturing capacity to support Customer’s requirements, including the development and implementation of long-term capital planning.
  • Optimize the utilization of manufacturing resources through rigorous review of processes, driving productivity gains.
  • Drive materials Value Analysis to reduce cost.
  • Lead the implementation of Lean methodologies to transform operational processes.
  • Foster a culture of Continuous Improvement and act as the catalyst for business improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment for both Hourly and Salary employees.
  • Build and maintain relationships that guide, motivate and reinforce positive performance of all employees toward goal accomplishments.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional departments in the successful achievement of company goals and vision.
  • Assume functional responsibility for the selection, development, evaluation, compensation, and retention of all team members and direct reports.
  • Seek and provide performance feedback, coaching, personal development and the development of others to improve capabilities in current role to prepare for future roles.
  • Establish priorities, balance demand for time and effort, set intervals and monitor results for all areas of work to ensure specific commitments and standards are achieved.
  • Responsible for the preparation of departmental budgets, standards and the tracking and accomplishment of business operations.

Fiscal Responsibility: Full P & L responsibility. 


  • Bachelors in Science Degree required: Engineering, Science discipline or Business Administration, MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of management experience, with 10+ years at a senior management level in manufacturing operations centric (Plant Management) leadership capacity required.
  • Seasoned CPG (preferably personal care/beauty) experience in all facets of manufacturing operations including: Quality, Plant Regulatory Compliance, Bulk Processing, Filling/Assembly.
  • Lean Transformation and Materials Cost Reduction implementations proven track record, Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Experience in either Personal Care or OTC Pharmaceutical high volume/SKU complexity/line changeover, multi-shift manufacturing environment.
  • Solid cost accounting/finance and business acumen with P&L experience, quantitative and performance measurement analysis.
